Dr. Vanessa Normil is a postdoctoral fellow at Eastside Psychological Associates working toward licensure as a psychologist under the supervision of Dr. Matt Brickell, PsyD. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Akron, her M.Ed. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Miami, and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Vanessa has extensive clinical experience working with adults, couples, and families across a variety of settings, including primary care clinics, community mental health centers, and outpatient private practice. She is especially passionate about supporting women navigating major life transitions, such as relationship changes, parenthood, and career pivots.

Her therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and integrative, blending evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based interventions within a trauma-informed and culturally responsive framework. Vanessa also incorporates mind-body approaches, such as breathwork and guided imagery, to help clients deepen self-awareness and resilience. She is also certified in clinical hypnosis.

As the firstborn daughter of immigrant parents, Vanessa understands the complex interplay of cultural identity, family expectations, and personal fulfillment. She draws on this lived experience to provide attuned and affirming care to clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Vanessa works with adults seeking support in:

  • Life transitions, including divorce, grief, adjustments to parenthood, and career changes

  • Anxiety and stress management

  • Trauma recovery and resilience building

  • Perfectionism and self-worth challenges

  • Relationship concerns and communication skills

In addition to her work with adults, Vanessa also sees adolescents ages 13 and older. She helps teens develop coping skills, emotional awareness, and healthy communication, while also supporting parents in better understanding their child’s needs. Common concerns she addresses include:

  • Academic stress, procrastination, and low motivation

  • Anxiety, mood changes, and difficulty managing emotions

  • Social pressures, friendship challenges, and self-esteem struggles

  • Ongoing tension or communication breakdowns at home
